Soul Care 2020

Our souls are most satisfied, most refreshed, and most alive when we enjoy God!  The gospel is good news for our souls, news that God has made a way for us to be unchained from our rebellion and unrighteousness and freed to do something extraordinary . . . enjoy our God.

Grace is God’s gift to us so that our souls might enjoy him! Jesus tells his disciples this wonderful news when He said, “I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!”

And Jesus shows us how our souls can enjoy him so that our joy will overflow. Just before he said to his disciples that his joy would fill them and their joy would overflow, he talked with them about abiding in him. Those that walked closest to Jesus needed to be vigilant about one thing if they were to fully enjoy Jesus. They had to abide (remain, live with, etc) in Jesus. He even made this promise: “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

Sunday, January 5, we will begin our annual messages on Soul Care, and each week we will focus on a passage from Psalm 119:137-168. Through this beautiful, inspiring Psalm, we will renew our means of grace (habits) to abide in Jesus and his Word.

Our desire is that each of us would make the following renewal as we begin 2020…

I renew my commitment to follow Jesus—

obeying his Word, the Bible,

and living by his example,

so that I might enjoy him!
