When God Doesn’t Fix It:  Lessons You Never Wanted to Learn, Truths You Can’t Live Without

Written by Laura Story

Tuesdays (beginning 2/11), 10AM, Room 201 C&E bldg

6-week study facilitated by Brenda Wise

Cost of study guide: $10

Worship leader and recording artist Laura Story’s life took an unexpected turn when her husband, Martin, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The fairy-tale life Laura had dreamed of was no longer possible. And yet in struggling with God about how to live with broken dreams, Laura has found joy and a deeper intimacy with Jesus. Laura helps us understand we aren’t the only ones whose lives have taken unexpected turns. She examines the brokenness of some of the heroes of our faith, and shows how despite their flaws and flawed stories, God was able to use them in extraordinary ways. And it was not because of their faith, but because of the faithfulness of their God. God may not fix everything. In fact, although your situation might not ever change or get better, with Jesus you can.

Free of Me:  Why Life is Better When It’s Not About You

Written by Sharon Hodde Miller

Wednesdays (beginning 2/12), 6:30PM, Room 204 C&E bldg

6-week study facilitated by Pam Roberts

Cost of book: $10

We live in a culture that’s all about self, becoming the best “me” I can be instead of becoming like Jesus. This me-centered message affects every area of our lives–our friendships, our marriages, even our faith–and it breaks each one in different ways. The self-focused life robs our joy, shrinks our souls, and is the reason we never quite break free of insecurity. In this study, Sharon Hodde Miller invites us into a bigger, Jesus-centered vision–one that restores our freedom and inspires us to live for more.

Job:  A Story of Unlikely Joy

Written by Lisa Harper

Thursdays (beginning 2/13), 7PM, home of Frances Marshall

7-week study facilitated by Ann Weisz

Cost of study guide: $10

Joy is the constant companion of the woman who trusts in the Lord. And while you can find it in friends, family, and circumstances, unfailing, persistent joy will only ever overflow from your relationship with Jesus. Just ask Job, the man from Uz who clung to God’s goodness while all his worldly joys were stripped away. But how is it possible to hold onto such joy in times of sorrow? In this 7-session study by Lisa Harper, discover the redemptive side to Job’s story of suffering. Learn to use pain to strengthen your faith, point others to the gospel, and remember God’s providence will never take you to a place where His grace will not sustain you.
